Although a relatively new professional in the field of psychotherapy, I am bringing with me a wealth of knowledge and experience in helping others, given that more than 24 of my 40+ years of life have been spent serving Canada and her people, in a variety of capacities, and more than 30 international environments the world over, as a member of The RCAF.
Having been trained in a variety of disciplines and approaches over the course of my career, in my capacity as a supervisor, I held the responsibility, and privilege, to serve as many member's "first line of defence" against an array of issues ranging from home sickness and test anxieties, right up to and including suicide intervention for at-risk individuals. I also bring experience and proficiency in addressing the enduring effects of addiction, as well as first-hand work in the area of both Operational, and Post Traumatic, Stress Injuries into my counselling practice by way of my service time.
As you can imagine, provided the unique nature and overall dynamic of military life, as a supervisor in that environment, there was also an enormous amount of relationship work required throughout my tenure, and it was here,
I garnered both the desire to serve, and my love for family and relationship counselling.
In addition to couples/families, I also retain an immense desire to help individuals, knowing full well that it is virtually impossible to achieve harmony as a couple or familial unit if the individual pieces aren’t functional in their own right.
Wanting to serve both those in, and out of the ranks of the military, after a more than twenty year hiatus, I responded to a call to go back to school, in pursuit of the formal education/credentialling required, to become registered in the field of psychotherapy, with the expressed goal of helping individuals, couples, and families heal by way of offering counselling to any and all who need it. In doing so, I obtained a Bachelor of Christian Counselling Degree - specializing in Marriage and Family Relationships from Canada Christian College in 2020, and followed that up with a Master’s of Divinity degree, specializing in Clinical Counselling from Tyndale Seminary in 2023.
As part of my education, in addition to the voluminous amount of counselling, coaching, and mentorship I conducted during my military service, I also completed intern work with the military’s Chaplaincy branch for my undergrad, and Chigamik Community Health Centre, for my graduate work; both of which provided me with an abundance of additional resources and training, given the volume, and broad spectrum of clients seen in each environment.
Personally, I am a gregarious, music loving, motorcycle riding foodie, who loves to travel.
As ebullient, as I am curious, I love spending time with family & friends, and hold an ever-open door and fully stocked fridge for any and all who enjoy stimulating conversation, delicious meals, and refreshing beverages.
Also an avid golfer, who's passion for playing and teaching the game probably borders on fanaticism(lol), when not working, studying, or entertaining, I can surely be spotted trying to break par at one of the local golf courses in our beautiful region, or any of those I may find within my travels.
Pura Vida!
